Clearer view of the Cloud

In recent times Cloud is everywhere, Enterprises, companies, IT Professionals, non IT Professionals and even my 9 year old talks.

Despite widespread talk and awareness yet majority unable to take a proper decision whether to go on Private, Public or Hybrid. When most people think and talk about cloud, it is likely public cloud which pops up into the mind. it's certainly one of the most broadly used, in part it is widely believed to be a cost-effective data storage option. However, there is continued debate on on the trade-off between benefits delivered versus perceived issues.

For majority, one of the biggest benefits of cloud is the cost savings it provide. Having said that there should be other benefits as well and choosing cloud shouldn't be solely based on cost. The ability to quickly scale, collaborate across borders, benefit from instant Application, Database, Software, Hardware, Network, Security updates and ultimately gain a competitive advantage are part of the reason why organisations choose public cloud.

On the other side, when compared to best on premise solutions, public cloud in some instances may be performance, reliability, regular compliance demand and security downgrade, these perceived downgrade prompting a renewed focus on on-premise model.

While this focus on on-premises might provide better data storage visibility and clarity of data residency, the reality is that organisations are not using public cloud in some capacity are likely missing out.

Public cloud should be a part of business strategy, and it shouldn't be just a strategy. Rather than existing as competing options, cloud and on-premise should complement each other and integration between them should be the focus for building an agile and secure, IT estate.

Decisions drives your life and not knowledge

Four years ago I was inspired by about how demand for basmati rice is so high and some of the Indian companies are making huge profits by exporting to Middle East. One such company was KRBL was trading hardly atound 100 INR, I started learning about the company and understood management is not great and they had huge debt, my knowledge says avoid debt ridden companies and poor management. I had to either follow my knowledge or take a decion to buy, here I trusted my knowledge here. 

The stock went to all time high of 675, that is 6 times in 4 years time. If I had taken decision, would have made huge amount of profit. The difference between success and failure is definitely not in knowledge you possess rather based on right decisions you take at right time. I am not knowledge is bad, decision making is superior over knowledge. Knowledge without decisions is like driving Ferrari in Bangalore roads.

Internet of Things

I was travelling between Chennai and Bangalore in India, suddenly my tire got punctured and damaged to the extent that needs a replacement, if i got a early warning would have saved 4500 INR. The drive back was scary because of no spare tire to rely on, I was thinking if there was a smart device inside the tire which monitors the PSI and sends data to the car Dashboard would have made my life easier. A week later attended Gartner's IT expo and convinced that the future is on Internet of Things.

Agile Axpert is a RAD platform for building Enterprise class Applications without writing code. I am very excited about the latest release of the product. We will be launching our cloud platform soon, with some great ERP applications.

I was just curious to understand what Oracle and Amazon has to offer on respecting Database storage over the Cloud offering.
