Oracle Apex vs PHP

As part of core team of developers working with best of talent in Oracle Apex product I always loved Apex as one of the best RAD framework to build web Apps.

The other day i had a discussion with one of my friend and was talking about PHP and then i thought of comparing PHP and Oracle APEX, finally stumbled on this posting in Oracle forum.

Oracle apex is best when you don't need to worry about UI part and concentrate on data and business logic.

What EXACTLY do you mean by this??

Oracle apex is best when you don't need to worry about UI part and concentrate on data and business logic.

I think you need to look at APEX closer. APEX does allow you to developer visually appealing applications and also worry about the data and your business logic. Hence the inclusion of Jquery and HTML 5 capable controls plus the wealth of UI plugins..

I mean Oracle Apex does win if we are talking about decent out of the Box UI and take your online withing minutes (building app is rapid fast).
Oracle Apex is a winner overall, but PHP does have a edge on connecting to multiple database, where Oracle Apex scores low, unless and until Oracle changes it's strategy a bit like Apex for mySQL.

I guess you have not done a lot of development work with APEX then.. The POWER of APEX is that it LIVES in the Oracle database.. If it was like php, then there would be no real benefit to using it.

APEX lives as a part of the database, and as soon as you realize this, it will be easier to use.. Trying to say it will be a better product once they make it work with other databases like mysql, is just a very bad statement..

PHP is a general purpose development tool, while APEX is specially built to develop web-based database driven applications using the Oracle database.

When you need the power of the Oracle database and a tight web based application, look to APEX. When you need a general purpose web application, then look at php and .nyet..
